The saga of Muffin continues

The saga of Muffin continues. I released Muffin July 6th. It was clear she wasn’t in season and she was wanting to be out. I’ve kicked myself every day since. She disappeared completely.
This is a squirrel that’s never been more than 40 feet from my door, who I interact with multiple times a day every day for nearly a year, just gone. Today I was rushing to feed before my dr appt and I heard a huge screaming ruckus, one of my hanging shelters started going back and forth and out comes a grey blur flopping hard to the ground, having just been brutally attacked by another squirrel.
I ran over to find Muffin, whose back end is already unstable, trying to balance on one front leg, because the other is injured. She was dazed and not ok. I ran inside to get a net then came outside to try to find her again. Here we go, she’s trying to run on really one functional leg,
Squirrel hot on her heels and me screaming like a lunatic to “leave my effing baby alone you rat bastard” (Hey I was a little worked up, give me a break lol). Eventually I ran off the other squirrel and got Muffin contained. She’s in a bad way. The look of relief was clear as day.
I’ve put her into an enclosure, and in one of her favorite beds after giving her some meds to make her more comfortable. I think I’m going to have to figure out a permanent solution for her. Seeing how incapable she is of defending herself, plus the breeding issues, it’s a lot to contemplate. She’s clearly happy to be back and safe for now

Thank you! Please keep her safe. Apparently she is not equipped to compete in the outside world.
