Lola’s First Ride Home

Lola’s First Ride Home
For Lola, the road ahead was more than a stretch of asphalt — it was the path to a brand-new life.
Just hours earlier, she had been sitting quietly in the corner of her kennel, unaware that her waiting was about to end.
When the shelter volunteer opened her door, Lola hesitated at first. Her paws shuffled on the concrete floor, her eyes flickering between caution and hope.
But then, the leash was clipped, the gate swung open, and she stepped forward — one careful paw at a time — toward freedom.
Now, nestled in the back seat of the car, Lola doesn’t quite understand what’s happening.
Her ears flick at every sound. Her nose twitches at the flood of new smells drifting in through the open window.
There’s a blanket beside her, a soft voice in the front seat telling her she’s a good girl, and the gentle hum of tires carrying her away from the shelter’s cold walls.
She doesn’t know the word “adopted.” She doesn’t know that the people in this car have promised to love her for the rest of her days.
What she does know is that the air feels warmer here. That the hand reaching back to stroke her head is kind.
That she doesn’t have to go back to the kennel tonight — or ever again.
Lola is on her way home for the very first time.
And somewhere deep inside, in a place beyond words, she already understands: this is the beginning of forever.
