When the Rain Came: Lumo’s Dance

The first drop fell softly on young Lumo’s back. He tilted his head toward the sky, blinking at the grey clouds above. Within moments, rain spilled down in silver streams, drumming on the grass, rippling puddles, and darkening the earth.

While the herd hurried to the safety of tall acacia trees, Lumo’s heart raced—not with fear, but with delight.

Trumpeting with glee, he spun in circles, splashing mud with his enormous feet. Each stomp sent droplets flying like tiny diamonds in the stormy light. The world was alive, and Lumo danced with it.

At first, the others only watched, shaking their heads at the little one’s wild joy. But then, to everyone’s surprise, old Boro—the grumpiest elephant of them all—stepped forward.

He raised his great trunk, released a deep, rumbling chuckle, and joined in. His heavy feet splashed alongside Lumo’s, stirring laughter from the rest of the herd.

One by one, they came forward: mothers, calves, even the dignified elders. Together, they trumpeted, stomped, and whirled in the rain.

By the time the clouds parted and sunlight poured across the savannah, the whole herd was laughing, their joy ringing louder than thunder.

What began as one calf’s happiness had become a celebration of life itself.
