“I May Walk Differently, But My Heart Loves Just the Same”

“I May Walk Differently, But My Heart Loves Just the Same”

I wasn’t born like the others. Or maybe I was, and life changed me later—an accident, an illness, a moment that turned my world upside down. I can’t remember the details, but I remember the feeling.

One day I could run. The next, I struggled to stand.

People pass by my kennel sometimes and glance in. Some tilt their heads and whisper sadly to each other, “Poor thing…” Others keep walking. They don’t mean to be unkind. But their eyes see my limp, my twisted legs, or the way I drag one paw behind me—and their hearts quietly close off.

But here’s what they don’t see.

They don’t see how I still get excited when I hear footsteps near my gate. How I wag my tail with so much force it shakes my whole body, even if my legs don’t cooperate.

They don’t see how I dream of being chosen—not out of pity, but out of love. Not because I’m different, but because someone saw my soul and decided it was worth loving.

I long for a soft hand to stroke my head, a warm lap to rest in after a hard day. I want to know what it feels like to sleep without fear, to eat without wondering if the next meal will come, to wake up in a place called “home.”

I’m not asking for much.

Just someone who sees past my body and into my heart. Someone who underst

ands that love doesn’t require perfection. That the most beautiful souls are sometimes wrapped in imperfect vessels.

I don’t run as fast anymore. I may need help with stairs or a little patience on rainy days. But I can promise you something in return: unconditional love. The kind that doesn’t fade. The kind that’s loyal beyond reason.

I’ll greet you like you’re the most important person in the world—because to me, you will be. I’ll protect you with my bark, lean on you when I’m tired, and love you like only someone who’s known loneliness can.

I may walk differently. But I feel the same. I hope the same. I love the same.

And just maybe—if you’re willing to look past the way I move—you’ll discover a heart that will change your life.

Because what’s inside me has never been broken. It’s just waiting for someone to see it.
