Not Impressed: One Cat’s Take on Sudden Life Changes
When I brought the new item into the house—whether it was a piece of furniture, a rescue animal, or just a strange-looking plant—I expected at least a little curiosity.
What I got instead was the look.
You know the one. Eyes narrowed. Ears back just slightly. Tail flicking with subtle disdain. The cat doesn’t seem too happy about it. In fact, she looks personally offended, like I’ve just committed a deep violation of her carefully curated environment.
And honestly? She’s not wrong.
Cats are creatures of habit. They don’t like surprises, unless they’re the ones delivering them (usually in the form of a flying leap from a shelf at 3 a.m.). So when something new disrupts their routine—be it a guest, a dog, or even a mildly scented candle—it’s war. Cold, silent, judgmental war.
Right now, she’s watching from the hallway, peeking around the corner like a tiny, furry landlord checking on a tenant who’s painted the walls neon green. No hissing. No chaos. Just pure, icy disapproval.
She’ll come around, of course. They always do.
Soon enough, she’ll be sitting on the new thing she hated yesterday, sleeping like she’s always owned it. But for now, we live in the shadow of her royal sulk.
And I, the humble human, accept my punishment.
